It is an unbelievable new year’s gift, the Indian government has granted Pakistani singer Adnan Sami Indian citizenship, which will come into effect on January 1, 2016. Officials in the Union Home Ministry said Sami will be an Indian citizen with effect from tomorrow.
Adnan Sami 42-year-old UK-born singer, who had applied for citizenship for a second time in March, 2015, after his first application was rejected two years back, has been staying in India on humanitarian grounds. On hearing the announcement, Sami said he was very happy and felt as if he had been “born again”.
“I love the country and the people and never felt like an outsider. I am grateful to everyone in India for making me feel I belong here,” said Adnan on this occasion. Adnan is popular for some of his hit songs in Tollywood films like Shankar Dada MBBS, Varsham, Ishq, Julayi and Temper etc.
